Kevin Baity Named Permanent Carbondale City Manager

CARBONDALE, Ill. (AP) - Carbondale has promoted its interim city manager to the permanent position. WSIU Radio reports that the Carbondale City Council voted 6-1 on Tuesday to hire Kevin Baity at a salary of $105,000 a year. Baity had served in a fill-in role since the retirement of Allen Gill. Baity formerlyheld positions as Centralia Community Development Director and Flora City Administrator. Jane Adams cast the only dissenting vote Tuesday, voicing concerns about how Baity handled a couple of city ordinance decisions. Yet she says she looks forward to working with him. Baity says his top priorities will be preparing the city's budget and completing the re-write of the city's zoning code, eventually wanting a master re-development plan drawn up for downtown. The southern Illinois city will pay for him to earn his master's degree in public administration from Southern Illinois University. - http://goo.gl/e2F7w
