Illinois nuclear plant to add 2,000 temporary jobs

CORDOVA, Ill. -- A nuclear plant in northwest Illinois will hire 2,000
temporary workers to perform maintenance and technological upgrades at one of the plant's two reactors.

The Quad Cities Generating Station is located near the city of Cordova
along the Mississippi River.

Communications manager Bill Stoermer says the temporary workers will include millwrights, pipefitters, welders and laborers from the local area and surrounding region. The plant has 900 permanent employees.

Stoermer says the plant's parent company, Exelon, won't disclose the duration of the refueling outage. He says it will start in the next two weeks and is expected to be "very short." He says it won't affect customers. - http://goo.gl/oucTu
