Fire damaged a rural Mt. Vernon home Sunday morning. Jefferson Rural Firemen say Digit Williams of 7768 Spring Garden Lane in Mt. Vernon was working outside her home when she heard a popping sound and discovered the fire in the living room. The fire gutted the living room and spread into the attic and roof area above the living room, but was stopped from spreading any further. However, there was smoke, heat and water damage to the rest of the single story home.
Mt. Vernon City and Bluford Firemen were called for mutual aide assistance to bring additional manpower and water to the scene. There were no injuries. Firemen had the fire under control in about a half hour and were on the scene for about an hour and 45 minutes beginning at 9:18 Sunday morning. full story
